NOTICE - Dealing with some chronic health issues, activity is sporadic. Most posts are on queue.

Figured I ought to make one of these after all these years xD

My names Wyn, welcome to my blog! I’m an agender freelance artist in my late 20s. She/They

I draw and write for Final Fantasy 14 and (sometimes) Fallout, and reblog from many other fandoms, especially Dragon Age, Star Wars, and Elder Scrolls. I also like cute animals (who doesn’t?) Can enjoy and will reblog most content/ships as long as they’re interesting.

I try to tag fairly clearly, followers are welcome to send me asks to tag specific things if they need them! Be aware that aged-up content, whump, hurt/comfort, presenting nipples, and “dead doves” can occasionally be found within.

There is no queue tag, most reblogs are on queue.

I’m never quite as productive or energetic as I’d like to be (is anyone?) but I appreciate you stopping by my hoard of shinies, and any likes/reblogs/comments/asks you leave behind!

Tag me in ask games! :D

Fanart/fiction is also welcome as long as attribution is given! Reblogs are welcome, but please do not repost or reupload my art or writing anywhere.

u know, having a “career” in art is cool and whatnot but i really do just do this stuff cause i have a lot of fun doing everything myself and making the little visuals and writing my little book and making my songs in my bedroom and doing everything exactly to my taste. it makes me happier than probably anything else in the world. i think so much of art has become a competition or a showcase of skill or something these days but i really do believe in creating things simply because you enjoy it.

you should always be your own biggest fan!

greatlordfluffernutter:

I love how the core cast of ffxiv protagonists is almost entirely made up of eccentric post-docs with the sole exceptions being teenagers with daddy issues, a secretary so powerful she’s the closest thing this world has to the mafia, an all powerful god-slaying warrior of light who’s only weaknesses are that there’s only one of them [citation needed] and they could theoretically die [citation needed] yet is most frequently assigned their designated errand do-er, and Estinien (he is the Azure Dragoon).

whumpers-inc:

GOd i fucking love it when they won’t stay down

When the whumpee fights back and they know how it ends, blood, broken bones, restraints but they get back up again anyway because they won’t, can’t stay down. They’re given an ultimatum and maybe it’s almost fair, they could take it, walk away with only shattered pride but they tear it up, put their fists up, because they won’t go down without a fight.

They’ve got a black eye, a split lip and their arm shouldn’t look like that but they’re taunting the whumper, make me, I dare you. Their knees buckle and they hit the ground but it doesn’t stick. They’re begging but it’s a for another fight, another round.

Maybe there’s a loved one, maybe it’s for their team or maybe they just don’t know what’s good for them. But they’re back up, swaying, fists bunched, spitting blood, fiery eyes.

You want a fight? Come and get one

What they don’t tell you about storytelling is that it becomes an instinct over time. You learn how to kind of … intuitively chain events together over time. That doesn’t mean it’s a cakewalk, or that you never get stuck on plotbeats, but you have a better time walking yourself out of corners that you as a less experienced writer would have been tempted to abandon your story over. Because you’ve been stuck in similar corners before; you know how you get out now.

I know its frustrating to keep hitting dead ends, but you got this. You’ll learn a little from every roadblock you hit.

Learning about plants has made my biopunk novel much more complicated like damn now I have to think about all the species and stuff

Generically vague settings are ruined for me forever. do y'all have any idea how specific the plant life in an area gets???

*Stares at the plants in novel set in fictional place with suspicion and criticism*

actually, i wanna talk about nature tropes in fantasy/otherwise “speculative” media because fiction has these stock tropes about nature that are so universal throughout everything from books to video games, and it turns out that they have nothing to do with reality

For starters, did y'all know that (with the exception of one species) cacti are ONLY native to the Americas, and deserts on all other continents have NO CACTI?

Does that mean that Africa, in similar situations, mostly has spiky shrubs (without those water-consuming green things called leaves) and yams-like storage roots?

Or are there further concepts?

What does Australia do?

I know about succulents, and that they’re also fairly common in the Alps (I don’t know if they’re native there, but the local name, “Hauswurz” - literally “house root” or “home root” - indicates as much).

Which aren’t deserts in the narrower sense, but also not exactly known for rich flora, due to the altitude, low amount of topsoil, and cold.

Have you reached a level that permits you to see patterns that shape plant life in an area? It sounds a bit like you’re in an area of frequent enlightenment…

Well the thing about plants is that they are much, MUCH weirder than animals are about radically altering and reshuffling their basic body forms and plans over the course of evolution, even within the same genus.

If you saw this plant, what would you assume its closest relatives are?

image

If you answered “violets,” good job! This is Viola atropurpurea, from the same genus as your common backyard violets.

image

This is weird. Can we talk about how weird this is? This is like if tigers and lions shared the genus Panthera with some kind of tiny aquatic salamander-like thing.

Cacti are a specific plant family. Succulent plants have convergently evolved approximately a billion times and come from (almost) every corner of the plant family tree. The universality of cacti as the iconic Desert Plant has much to do with the average person not knowing the great variety of desert adapted plants, and mentally categorizing unrelated succulent plants as cacti because “cactus” is the closest word they have.

Desert plants are weird y'all. A ton of them look like weird mushroom- or barrel-like bulges and tubes. Like, just look at this thing.

This is Yareta and there are no photos of it that are like “Yeah that is a normal, real thing.” (It’s not moss! It’s a flowering plant!)

versegm:

Literally cannot emphasize enough that my #1 writing advice is to stop being afraid. Stop being afraid of sounding too cringe, or too stupid, or too horrifying, or too horny, or too weird, or too much, or too little, or too you. You need to put your entire pussy into your art. Sure, it won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but if you keep yourself to the blandest tamest safest roads possible you will be of no one’s tastes, not even yours.
